Tahquamenon Falls State Park
(Paradise MI)

Upper Tahquamenon Falls is the second largest fall east of the Mississippi River. The Tahquamenon River, 200 feet wide, here, plunges some 50 feet – a veritable Niagara in Michigan. Easily reached via MI-123 and an easy, wheelchair accessible, paved path from the parking lot, Upper Tahquamenon Falls is a ‘don’t miss’ stop in your tour of Michigan waterfalls. 

Upper Tahquamenon Falls is considered one of the seven “Notable Falls” in Michigan listed in the Michigan Atlas & Gazetteer by Delorme Mapping.

If you enjoy extended hikes, the North Country National Scenic Trail passes through the Tahquamenon Falls State Park offering some very rewarding views of the Tahquamenon River.

How to get to Upper Tahquamenon Falls:

  • From I-75, exit 386, drive west on MI-28 to the intersection of MI-123 (about 30 miles).
  • Turn right and drive north on MI-123 to Paradise (about 22 miles).
  • In Paradise, MI-123 turns left and now heads west and southwest. Continue on MI-123 for 15.5 miles to the Tahquamenon Falls State Park parking area for Upper Tahquamenon Falls (big white on green sign so it’s hard to miss).
  • Follow the signs to the overlook (follow the crowd?). There are complete facilities at the State Park.
