Laughing Whitefish Falls Scenic Site
(near Sundell MI)
Laughing Whitefish Falls is considered by many to be the most spectacular of Michigan’s waterfalls. It is rated as one of the seven “Notable Falls” in Michigan in the Michigan Atlas & Gazetteer by DeLorme Mapping. The water falls cascade through a picturesque gorge with old growth pine, cedar, balsam, fir and hemlock towering above. The easy, 0.8 mile walk from the parking lot to the falls is via a well groomed trail under nature’s umbrella of old-growth hardwoods, including beech and maple trees (especially beautiful when the leaves turn crimson and gold in September-October). Excellent viewing is from observation decks at the top, middle and bottom of the 110 foot long cascade. There is also a developed trail to the bottom of the gorge.
